The best SPF moisturisers for skin protection

The one thing I’m always diligent about is protecting my skin and using an SPF all year around. Many people believe that sun screen is only for holidays but they couldn’t be more wrong!

Sun protection protects you not only against UVB (which is sun burn) but also UVA (which ages and damages the skin) . Ultraviolet rays can be damaging even on cloudy days, and YES, even in the UK.
As a woman in my 40’s I need all the anti ageing help that I can get!!!!

Being diligent about SPF doesn’t have to be a challenge, but we know that our health depends on staying protected from harmful rays. The easiest way to make a change is to use an SPF moisturiser instead of a regular moisturiser under your makeup in the morning (remember to cover your eyelids, neck and any areas that are on show to the sunlight, including your ears!).

The best SPF moisturisers are SPF 20 to 50, to ensure the sun’s rays aren’t wreaking havoc with your skin cells. The higher the SPF the better at fighting the signs of ageing.

Here is a list of some of the top rated affordable SPF moisturisers:

Please note that wearing a moisturiser with an SPF doesn’t provide as much protection as wearing a sunscreen on its own and reapplying when necessary. Remember that your SPF moisturiser is under your makeup and realistically its SPF properties will diminish during the first couple of hours of wear.

If possible, it is recommended not to rely solely on moisturisers containing SPF, especially if you are spending a lot of time in the sun.
Moisturisers and make-up that contain UV protection are better than nothing at all, but for prolonged periods it is recommend to apply sunscreen with high SPF. For more information on this topic please read ‘Does the SPF in your moisturiser actually protect you from the sun?’ at Harpers Bazaar.
